They can be used dry but if used dry the dust will collect on the pad and eventually will impede the shine.
The Diamapads can be used for all marbles. Most marble will have very good shine without any powder. The powder is usually used to give the shine that little extra depth and color.

The Diamapads are particularly good for marbles that contain salt because you do not need to use polishing powder.

Remember, all polishing powders contain a different amount of salt. The salt causes many problems to the shine. The most known are:

White spots that appear after some time, depending on humidity, even after a few days.

Stains, which usually are darker than the stone. These are stains that the salt causes attracting humidity.

The shine will be corroded by the salt.

Marbles that contain a lot of salt are most beige like Galala, other marbles such as Botticino etc contain salt but not as much.

The Diamapads can be used for: Marble, Terrazzo (cement terrazzo and resin terrazzo) and concrete. However, the concrete must have been treated with a consolidating product in order to achieve very high shine. This applies to any method or diamond they use. The consolidating chemical will make the shine stronger because it helps to close the pores.

The use of Diamapads is very easy.

Marble:

Depending on the depth of the scratches on the floor, start with grit 50, 100, 200 or 400 and follow with the remaining grits.

Usually starting with grit 200 is enough unless the floor has very deep scratches. Some customers start always with grit 100 and others with grit 50 because, they say, that way they are sure of the final result and the final cost of polish is only slightly more.

How to apply powder. In order to save time and costs apply the powder as follows:

Place a little polishing powder under the felt of grit 3000 (approx ¼ amount of powder they would normally use) and use grit 3000 with powder on approx 3 sqm. As the area is polished (takes a few minutes) move to the next area and so on.

NOTE: if they use powder they must wash the finished area with clean water as soon as possible to remove the remaining powder and the salt contained in it. If, on the finished area, you leave the powder too long, the shine will be less.

Concrete:

Same as marble but without powder.

Cement Terrazzo:

Same as marble, they can use a little powder at the end.

Resin terrazzo:

Same as marble, usually without powder but on some a little powder can be used depending on the contents of the terrazzo. If it contains a lot of stone the use of powder will make the stone or shells, these sometimes can look very bright depending on the light, almost like stars.

  • Operators find these pads easy to use. Training takes at most a day for a novice.
  • Machines for The DIAMAPADS are 5 and 7 inch hand polishers and  17” low rpm and horsepower swing machine:
  • The machines should have an rpm that does not exceed 200 for optimum time and quality of shine.
  • The basic rule is that higher rpm will take longer to work. However, rpm 200 (on grit 1500/3000) will give a little higher shine faster while on lower grits will take longer to work (Except resin terrazzo, in this case, high rpm may over-heat).
  • Basic rule 2: higher rpm generally will make the tool last a little longer but grind slower.
  • The above rules apply to Diamapads. For example, high rpm on some similar pads will wear the tool faster.  We recommend 200 rpm or slower for 17 and 27 inch pads.
